Learning about Martin Luther King, Jr. in Atlanta

Living in Metro Atlanta has given my kids and I an amazing opportunity. Being so close to the home of Martin Luther King, Jr. makes this time of year a little more special. If you're ever in the area here are some of the best places to visit (Most excerpts taken from the web page they are linked to):

The Birth Home of Martian Luther King, JR.

Visiting the home where Dr. King was born and lived the first twelve years of his life is often the highlight of ones visit to the national historic site. The ranger led tour is free and lasts approximately 30 minutes during which time you will learn about the life of a young M. L. King. The home is open for tours on a daily basis, except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day, with the first tour at 10:00 am and the last tour at 4:00 p.m. Tours are limited to 15 people. More info can be found HERE.

Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church

Throughout its long history, Ebenezer Baptist Church, located in Atlanta, Georgia, has been a spiritual home to many citizens of the "Sweet Auburn" community. Its most famous member, Martin Luther King, Jr., was baptized as a child in the church. After giving a trial sermon to the congregation at Ebenezer at the age of 19 Martin was ordained as a minister. In 1960 Dr. King, Jr. became a co-pastor of Ebenezer with his father, "Daddy" King. He remained in that position until his death in 1968. As a final farewell to his spiritual home Dr. King, Jr.'s funeral was held in the church.

The King Center
Mrs. Coretta Scott King established The Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change, Inc. in 1968 to preserve the legacy of her husband. While at The King Center visit the final resting place of Dr. King, Jr. and exhibits on him, Coretta Scott King, and Mahatma Gandhi.

For even more information check out the official national park site.

Dr. King was such a big part of a movement. I am so grateful for everything he did. Thanks to him I have the family I have today and the friends I have today. Thank You Dr. King!!!

ALL the Seibert girls! My SILs, MIL, and daughters.

Simple Chicken and Vegetable Stir-fry

As most of you know by now, I'm all about simple, easy recipes. With all the cold weather, I enjoy hot meals even more. This chicken and vegetable stir-fry is so simple, yummy and doesn't even require a wok!!

  • 1 1/4 lbs boneless skinless chicken breast
  • 1 can (10 3/4 oz) of condensed cream of celery soup
  • 1 bag of frozen stir-fry veggies (my family choose a broccoli blend)
  • 1T. soy sauce
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 cup cooked rice

 1. Cube the chicken. Cook over medium heat in greased pan.

2. Cook until well-browned. Stirring often.

3. Push chicken to one side. Add veggies and cook till veggies are tender.

4. Add soup, soy sauce, and garlic powder.

5. Stir till bubbly.

6. Cover and simmer for 7 min.

7. Serve on a bed of rice.

This is a wonderful way to get veggies into the kids. All 3 of mine love this dish and both Rosey Posey and Bubee requested seconds.  What's your favorite cold weather dish?

Like this idea? Pin it!!
