Camping

It's almost time to head back to school. (Can you believe it?!) So we're wrapping up our summer with a camping trip! Here are a few pictures and some of the things we learned.

Get the kitchen organized FIRST!
No matter when you get to camp the first the the kids will want is food. Other than your sleeping arrangements (tent, camper, etc.) The kitchen is the most important thing to your sanity and enjoyment so make sure it's comfortable, neat and you can find what you need at the drop of a hat.

Plan Fun Meals
I try to plan at least one new recipe each trip, one 'campfire cooked' meal per day, and 2-3 quick rainy day meals per trip. My kids LOVE helping cook over the fire.

Contain the Baby
Little Lady is such an outdoor baby, she hates being left out. So in order for her to join in the family fun and still be safe (The camping pad was covered in tiny gravel) we had to bring some extra baby equipment: Portacrib, PackNPlay, outdoor rug, fencing, portable 'exersaucer', folding infant seat, baby float, not to mention the umbrellas and screen house used for shade.

It's Gonna Rain
Even if it's only 1 hour, it's just seams to be mother nature's rule that if you're camping it's going to rain. We always pack plenty of 'rainy day' activities. I got a lot of Rosey Posey's fun stuff at the dollar section at Target or my local craft store. Note to moms: use this time to let the kids make something messy. You don't have to worry about your carpet, table, or walls getting messed up and they clean up nicely after a dip in the lake or a trip to the bathhouse, so let them enjoy it!

Chris was a super dad! Near the end of the trip the kids wanted to spend more time playing with their new camp friends than cooking over a fire. So he stepped up and cooked 6 hot dogs a once.

No camping trip is complete without s'mores and a hammock by the lake!!
