Everything You Need for Summer Reading Success

Everything You Need for Summer Reading Success

It's summer time. That means fun trips, pool time, no school... and reading. Yep, most parents these days know the importance of Summer Reading and with scary phrases like "summer slide” and "decline in reading ability", most parents will do ANYTHING to get their kids to read during the summer. On the other hand, most kids will do ANYTHING to not do anything that remotely feels like school. I have put together some great tools to help you and your young reader make the most of this summer while not feeling burned out.

Reading Lists

Reading Lists

Reading Lists
The first step in any summer reading is knowing WHAT to read. Some schools assign summer reading lists which make it pretty easy to pick what to read. Most public libraries also have age-appropriate reading lists available online or onsite. The American Library Association has a great list HERE.

Tracking your Reader

Tracking Books Read

Tracking
Everyone who sets a goal needs to be able to track their progress. Every child from 2-10+ loves to be able to show their accomplishments. So make sure you have a way to show and track the books they've read. You can use a Reading Log, Punchcards, make a Bookworm, or the printable below. You can use it several ways. Write all the books on your child's summer reading list on the spines to start with, then they color them in as they read them. Or you can just write or color in books as your child reads them.
