Another Camping Trip in the Books- June 2014

So this past week you will notice I've been a little MIA. Sorry. We just got back from our annual week long camping trip. I have to admit I'm BUSHED!!! I think Little Lady is just at the in between age where she's old enough she wants to join the big kids, but young enough she can't always. So I spent a LOT of time trying to keep her happy an preoccupied. The good news: I will have a whole camping series for you this week!!

 Everyone got to relax in the hammocks, even Little Lady.

We did have some rain almost every day. Fortunately nothing severe, and it usually only last 1-2 hours each day.
 Meme caught this AMAZING picture of lighting across the lake.

 When the storm finally reached us it rained...
 A LOT!! We had to dig a bit of a trench to drain the water out of camp.


 Little Lady got to enjoy some water time in her play area (Notice the fence).

While Rosey Posey and her friend got to enjoy a sunset swim in the lake.

 Bubee caught frogs, or toads, I don't know.

My favorite thing was the campfires each night.

 Everyone got to relax a bit!

I even got a little time to hang out in the hammock a read.  (BTW: I LOVE Stormie Omartian, you  should check her out!)

 This is the new decal on Meme's Camper (Yes, I use to be a Jackson.) I made it thanks to Fynes Designs. She's got several others on her site, so check it out!!


 No summer camping trip is complete without watermelon. Little Lady was a mess!!


 We got to enjoy seeing some beautiful wildlife.

And enjoyed some gourmet S'mores.

Publix Saved the Day... AGAIN!! #OldElPasoMealDeal

This past week we've been camping (hence the low post content). I arrived home today dirty, tired, sunburned, and wondering what was for dinner. I had some camp left overs, but truthfully I was tired of Hot Dogs. So enter Publix and Old El Paso to the rescue!! I've used Publix approns for some great recipes in the past, but when I saw the Meal Deal for this week, I knew just what was for dinner!!!


This was less expensive than getting fast food for the family or pizza delivered and I didn't have to do any meal planning or prep!!

We opted for the Chicken Enchiladas, Italian Salad and dressing, and some YUMMY Caramel Vanilla Gelato. Got home and put the Chicken Enchiladas in to cook, had about 20 min to sooth my sunburn and start the camp laundry. We then put on the Croods, and enjoyed a nice Family dinner and movie night!

Bubee LOVED his dinner. And as you can see behind him, I saved enough time to get the first load of laundry done from camp. I enjoyed camping, but I'm so happy to be home and so glad Publix saved the day!!

    Phonics Flip Cards

    This summer I am working extra hard with Bubee and his reading. Meme came across this idea over at Kids Activity Blog and I knew I had to make one!! What a wonderful way to work on blends, sounds, and phonics. After I made it Bubee sat down with it and zoomed through the first word family. Yeay!!


    • Spiral bound set of index cards (I could only find these neon ones, but I think they worked better than plain white ones)
    • Sharpie marker (I liked this one with a fine tip and a regular tip)
    • Scissors


    1. Cut the index cars about 1/3 from the left (This is better illustrated in the picture on the right) so that to have a smaller card on the left and larger card on the right. With regular scissors you can only cut through about 5 cards at a time, so use your previously cut card to line up the next one so that your cards will flip easily.

    2. Write your word families on the cover and the right hand cards (This is why I loved having the fine tip sharpie for the cover and the regular tip for the cards). The list I used was: est, in, ock, ug, ack, ant, ick, ame, ide, ink, ate, ump, eat, ore, oil, op, ine, ice, ain, ank, at, ash, eep, ight, oke, unk, own, ing, and y.  You can use just about any word families that your child needs.

    3. On the left hand cards write the blends and letters. I used: B, C, D, F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, P, Qu, R, S, T, V, W, Y, Z, ab, ad, bl, cl, fl, gl, pl, sl, br, cr, dr, fr, gr, tr, th, sh, ch, wh, sch, sk, sn, sm, sp, st, str, sw, kn. Notice I did not use any vowels, or "X" and I used "Qu" instead of just "Q".

    If I had it to do over I would NOT have capitalized the single letters,

    but it still turned out nicely!


    This is a great tool to use many ways. I have Bubee flip through and read to me while I'm working. It's so easy and great exercise!! This summer he has to give me 5 min in his flip cards before he can watch the TV and he doesn't even mind.
