Zoo Atlanta

This past weekend we got to check another thing off our summer bucket list: Family trip to the zoo! My parents, brother, sister-in-love and niece: Princess (2 years old) were able to join us.

We started the day pretty early arriving only 30min. after the gates opened. I must admit the weather was kind of weird: Mid August in Atlanta rainy and ONLY 61 Degrees out!!  So we started our trip by stopping in the gift shop for a pair of overly priced socks for Little Lady.  They didn't even have any cute ones. :(

Next we stopped by the flamingos which are right by the gate. That's when my kiddos realized the zoo is not the nicest smelling place. You can see Bubee holding his nose.

Next stop: Lions!! Today while looking at pictures this conversation hapened:

Rosey Posey: They just look so cute and cuddly.
Bubee: DON'T CUDDLE LIONS!!!
!
Wow! Thanks for the insight Bubee. :P

Growing up I got to enjoy Willie B. many times on my trips to the Zoo. I am so glad my kiddos can enjoy his legacy. The gorillas were amazing to see and watch. Some of the females were right by the window and we even got to see the newest little one. Although we didn't get a good picture of the little one due to all the bright colors everyone was wearing.

Little Lady enjoyed seeing all the animals from her view point in the backpack. This thing is so comfortable and easier to maneuver in a crowded area than a stroller. She would point at any of the animals and announce "Doggie!". Guess we have a little work to do in that department. I felt a little like Tarzan all day trying to tell her the names: "Gor-ill-a!!" But it was so much fun to see her in my little 'rear view mirror' and how much fun she was having.

The past few years seams like the Pandas have been the star attraction. And with twin boys being born last month, this trip was no exception. We got to see big brother, Po, and view one of the babies and Lun Lun on the video monitor.

Of course our last trip of the day had to be to the kid zone so we could enjoy the petting zoo, carousel, train, and splash fountain. We got the 10 ticket combo pass and saved $10. Everyone got to ride what they wanted.

Takeaway Tips

  • Double check the weather: Even if you THINK you know what it will be.
  • Pack for the weather: Jackets, umbrellas, and even socks
  • Wear dark clothes if you can: This will help you get great pictures through glass with out snapping a picture of your reflections.
  • Travel comfortably with baby: Did I mention I LOVE my backpack?
  • Use every trip for education: Even if it's teaching the little one animal names, or older ones about kingdoms and species.
  • Buy combo or discount tickets: You may have to check on-line before hand, just make sure the deal is really saving you money.

  1. My favorite part was seeing the joy on my grandchildren's faces. Worth any trip anywhere.
