Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Cookies

“I have a dream that one day little black boys and girls will be holding hands with little white boys and girls.”
― Martin Luther King Jr., I Have A Dream

Each year for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day I like to send some special cookies into school with Bubee. I have made these cookies the past 3 years and they are always a big hit.

1. Mix the cookie dough according to the package.

2. Divide the dough into 3 equal parts

3. Color the dough. Red: 7 drops of red food coloring. Brown: 7 red + 5 blue + 3 green + 2 yellow

4. Roll out the dough according to the packaging directions. Cut as many hand shaped cookies as you can. I got about 7 from each color.

5. Using the small heart cookie cutter, cut heart shapes out of each hand shape.

6. Put the hearts back in the hand shapes mixing the colors. Use any extra dough to cut out more heart shapes.

7. Cool according to packaging and enjoy!

I owe so much to Martin Luther King, Jr. I am so blessed, that while I am a white woman, about 50% of my friends (Including my BFF) are black, 3 of my Sister-in-laws are black, and I live in a world where I really don't think about the color of people's skin. My children don't have to think about this either. Thanks to Dr. King, my family and friends are who they are today And for that I am eternally grateful!

How will you and your family be celebrating MLK Day?
